Best practice

We recommend to always save and back up the presentation before attempting a file change. Changing Excel® files may be useful if old versions have to be replaced with newer versions or when a monthly reporting is generated for a new month based on the last months report and Excel® files.
Change File

Usage instructions

  1. Select the new Excel file using the Browse button.
  2. After selecting the new file, slideRush will run several integrity checks on the new workbook.
    • Valid file: This shows an indication if the file is a valid Excel® workbook containing a smartRush file ID.
    • File ID: Every Excel® workbook used in slideRush has a unique file ID. For example, if you have reporting data for one month (e.g., August.xlsx) and create a copy of this workbook for the September data, both workbooks will have the same file ID.
      • Note that you can replace an Excel® workbook with a completely different workbook (i.e., different file ID), but typically you will want to replace files with the same file ID.
      • It can make sense to replace an Excel® file with identical file IDs and change the file ID of the new Excel® file afterwards if you want to keep both versions.
    • File version: In the sheetRush add-in you can change the file version of a workbook to keep track of different versions. This number is shown here.
    • Last save date: Shows the last save date of the file. Sometimes Excel® shows random numbers here, this is a known bug that cannot be fixed by slideRush. Often this behaviour occurs in connection with files stored on Sharepoint® servers.
    • File path: is the file path of the respective file
  3. Click OK to start the file change. Note that you cannot cancel a file change operation and this operation may take several minutes as all linked items are checked and updated.
