Cut or Multiply Shape

Cut a single shape into several new smaller shapes or multiply the selected shape.

Multiplying a shape is a great way to quickly generate impressive slides. Keep in mind, it is not recommended to cut or multiply linked slideRush items as this may lead to duplicate IDs.

The Cut or multiply feature can be found in the smartRush ribbon in Powerpoint within the Shape tools group:

Once the button is clicked the following dialog will open:

Usage instructions

  1. Select a single shape
  2. Click the Cut or multiply shape button in the ribbon or hit the hotkey
  3. The following modes are available in the dialog:
    • Cut into uniform shapes: Cutting a shape into uniform shapes will cut the shape into new smaller shapes of the same size. The total size of the new smaller shapes will be the same as the originally selected shape.
    • Multiply: Multiplying will create new additional shapes, each with the same size as the originally selected shape.
  4. The following additional settings are available:
    • Unit: Select the unit that will be used for row and column spacing settings
    • Number of rows: Enter the number of rows the resulting shapes should be aligned in
    • Number of columns: Enter the number of rows the resulting shapes should be aligned in
    • Row spacing: Enter the spacing between two vertical shapes based on the unit entered in this dialog
    • Column spacing: Enter the spacing between two vertical shapes based on the unit entered in this dialog
  5. Hit the Apply button to cut or multiply the shapes
